Our ranch is located in northern Meade County, approximately 90 miles northeast of Sturgis, SD—or 130 miles west of Pierre, SD.
The ranch has been home to our family since 1974. John and Verneen Frei moved here from Spearfish and raised two children, Lance and Sasha (Ness). Lance and his sister got their start in the cattle business as teenagers.
Lance graduated from Faith High School in 1992 and continued his education at South Dakota State University. In 1997, Lance graduated with degrees in Animal Science and Range Science. After college, Lance returned to the ranch to put his education to work. He began growing his commercial herd, using AI to breed the cows to top sires in the industry.
In 2003, Lance had the opportunity to meet fellow cattleman, Jim Willson of Crook Mountain Angus in Whitewood, SD. Before long, the two men formed a partnership. With help and guidance from Jim, Lance started raising his own registered cattle. In 2006, Lance began selling registered bulls.
In addition to raising cattle and selling bulls, we custom feed and background cattle, wean and AI heifers, and fatten and sell Angus beef.
Today, the ranch is home to three generations of our family. John and Verneen live here; Verneen is employed by the Faith School District. Lance and his wife Kerry (Nixon) are raising two little girls, Bentley and Bridger; and Kerry has a home-based consulting business.
